The American Medical Association wants to take our fat kids

"Those are governed best who are governed least." Thomas Jefferson

I was appalled to see this horrible Opinion/Article that just came out from the Journal of the American Medical Association titled, "Should Parents Lose Custody of Their Extremely Obese Kids?" http://healthland.time.com/2011/07/13/should-parents-lose-custody-of-their-very-obese-kids/

The first two paragraphs of this article really frighten me.

"One way to manage the nation's childhood obesity crisis might be to take the most severely overweight kids away from their parents, argues Harvard pediatrics professor and obesity expert David Ludwig in a controversial commentary published Tuesday in one of the country's most well-regarded medical journals.

The recommendation in the Journal of the American Medical Association to consign extremely obese kids to foster care is eye-popping, but it's already transpired in a handful of U.S. cases in which a morbidly obese child was at risk of serious health problems."

In the meantime, the mortality rate associated with anorexia nervosa is 12 times higher than the death rate of ALL causes of death for females 15 – 24 years old. In the meantime, "an analysis by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality found that hospitalizations for eating disorders jumped by 119 percent between 1999 and 2006 for kids younger than 12." http://www.businessweek.com/lifestyle/content/healthday/646574.html And, In the meantime, "A six-year-old girl obsesses over her weight, while another young girl eats paper instead of food to fill up. Why are prepubescent girls developing eating disorders? Sydney Forbis seems like an ordinary teenager: She wears skin-tight clothing, worries about her figure and painstakingly picks out each new outfit when she goes shopping with her mother. The extraordinary thing about Sydney is that she is only 6 years old." http://preventdisease.com/news/articles/disorders_start_early.shtml(I saw this little girl interviewed on Good Morning America.)

So, is the AMA or Big Brother going to come in and take these eating disordered children away from their parents? No. This isn't about our children, in general. It's about our FAT children. It's about making fat the enemy. It's about trying to force everyone to be a certain size. We have to stand up and fight this!
